So,
As a single mom, I worry a lot about how I'm not able to provide for my son the way I would if I were in a two parent household. I'm not necessarily speaking about finances either. But I would be able to have a little more time to spend with Zavy, if I was not the cook, the maid, the teacher, the coach, the tailor, etc. I do try my best, although my best may only be 3 home cooked meals a week sometimes, and more than 1 hour of TV one night a week. Hey, it happens sometimes.
So, you can imagine I was very pleased to hear some of the other moms at my jobs, weren't so perfect either. One mom confessed that during baseball season, her family eats out 6 out of 7 nights of the week. That's right...MacDonalds, California Pizza Kitchen, KFC, she does them ALL. Phew. I felt guilty allowing Zavy the 1x a week happy meal!
Then, another mom confessed that she was attending a parent conference meeting at her child's school because her child was failing 4 out of 5 classes. WOW! Now, Zavy is only in 1st grade, but he is doing above level in all of his subjects...so at least I am doing something right.
I think the lesson I learned here was that it doesn't matter whether you are in a two parent household or not, as long as you do the best you can. Regardless of the circumstances.

OMG...
I'm in so much pain. What kind of pain? Well, physical pain. My entire body is aching, but I do not think that I'm sick. I have to say that I have been working out in the gym and not really stretching as much as I should. Perhaps its residual gym pain. Uggh. However, its a great excuse for a visit to the Spa! Indeed. I have to tell you, I was never one to go to the Spa. Massages? Not my thing. Pedicures/Manicures? Local Salons with the Asians. Until, my mom gave me a Spa day after I had my son one Christmas, and OMG! I'm hooked. I had a full body massage and hot stone treatment! WOWZERS!!!! Amazing. Since then, I have been going at least 3 or 4 times a year, but I think I need to go more often, like 12 or 13 times. The last time I went I had a full body massage and reflexology (the latter is a little uncomfortable, but bearable).
OK...Sick son just started crying...gotta go. The blessings of motherhood.

Old Maid...
Well,
I have really turned into an Old Maid...I made plans to go out with my girlfriend tonight, however, I am home, again. I don't have my son as he is out of town visiting family with his dad. I got paid yesterday, so money is not an object this time. I just PREFER to actually stay home and watch movies that I have seen before (Step Mom, Where the Heart Is, Wedding Crashers). So, I take it, that yes...I am indeed an old maid. Just like Charlotte in Sex and The City. Except for, I'm 30 years old, so if I choose lifetime over socializing with friends now, imagine what I'll be doing when I am GASP, 35 years old!!!!

I think that...
There should be movie category titled Romantic Tragedies...think Romeo and Juliet, Legends of the Fall, and any other movie where the two lead characters who were in love, did not end up together. If my life were played out as a movie, it would be a Romantic Tragedy...thus far. I intend to change that. I've been thinking of what I want to do with my life lately and I know that I want to expand my family. Zavion shouldn't be an only child. Well, in my mind he shouldn't. And I come from a pretty large family, so...well, I guess I better get back out in the field huh?

By The Way...
My baby lost BOTH of his front teeth and he has picture day on Friday...Life is funny that way, huh :-)
Beauty has a price...about $30.
I'm a minimalist when it comes to make-up. Actually, anything that will add more time to my morning routine is just a no go for me. I have a hard enough time getting the two of us ready and out the door on time...Who in the HELL has to time to wash the face, dry, apply primer, then foundation, then...then...then! No siree.
But, things have changed. I am single...and yes, on the market so to speak, so now, more than ever, I need to pay attention to my appearance. I mean, what good is inner beauty if I can't attract them with "outer" beauty, right? So, here is my make-up routine that I can do daily in about five minutes or less and this actually works. I get compliments. From men and women! And, my biggest critic of all, my Zavy.
1) St. Ives Apricot Scrub- I uses this at least 2x a week to wash away all impurities. Well, maybe not all. But it does make my skin look and feel good.
2) Tinted Moisturizer- This is great because I don't use foundation. I use Mary Kay's tinted moisturizer with spf 15. So, I'm protected and I get just the right amount of tint that actually hides whatever blemishes I may have! BRILLIANT! I swear by this. Almost every make-up brand has a tinted moisturizer. BUY IT.
3) Maybeline Triple lash mascara. This is pretty self explanatory. Makes your lashes look lush :-)
4) E.L.F. Bronzer- Bronzers give your skin a lift. They provide a little glow and can make you look like you've got a nice little tan. It's a great investment that only costs $1! How about that???
5) Lip Gloss- I prefer gloss to matte lipstick. I use cover girl lip glosses in a few different shades, depending on whatever mood I'm in.
With those five products, I really have a well put together look. It's not MAC or Bobbi Brown, but they work just as well. And, if I have learned anything in the past six years since being a mom, is STICK WITH WHAT WORKS!!!

Splendor in the Grass...indeed!
Ok, so this weekend I did much of...nothing, actually. I went to lunch with my cousins for their birthdays and went to Borders and consequently read a book I intended on purchasing. The book, Trump Card by Ivanka Trump, was ok. Let's just say I'm glad I did not purchase it. I need the money. Ivanka Trump doesnt. I was also going to see a movie, which I decided against at the very last minute. I just wanted to go home.
So, from Saturday evening through Sunday night, I laid on my couch and watched Television. Un-interrupted. A HUGE luxury. Yes, when you are a parent, little things like watching a full hour of tv in peace and quiet goes a long way, so imagine a full DAY AND A HALF of tv watching! I hit the jackpot! Any way, one of the movies I saw was Splendor in the Grass starring a young and very very very very handsome Warren Beatty and a very beautiful, naive and sometimes annoying Natalie Wood. Had those two married in real life, they would have made a very Gorgeous Couple. This movie was about a girl who had fallen deeply in love with a boy, but because she was brought up as a proper girl, couldn't give into the boy's desires, and as luck would have it, he fulfilled those desires elsewhere ( unproper girls) and the girl went crazy. She did. She actually ended up in a mental instutition for two years.
The movie was good, but there was one part in particular that I loved...the part in the classroom where Deanie, the lovestruck girl, was in class and forced to read a poem out loud. She couldn't even finish it because her poor heart was broken. But, in the end, Deanie would realize the importance of the poem. And appreciate it.
The poem was written by William Wordsworth, entitled, Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood, 175-186
"What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind"
In the end, Deanie did find her strength...here's to hoping the rest of us lovestruck fools find ours.
